Before Sunset

I took a boat to the charming fishing village of Marken. It used to be an island but is now connected to Holland. It is now a very popular tourist destination. It was a beautiful place with adorable houses and animals. The sunset was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. So glad I got to capture it with my camera.

Wishing you a good Wednesday. Hope you have your halloween costume figured out ;)

Minimalism

Hello! Hope you had a nice weekend. One of my best friends was down from Montreal. It was so nice to see her and catch up. I also went to see Gareth Emery on Saturday, great show! So much fun to dress up and spend a night dancing.

Here is another purchase from Amsterdam. I bought this dress from Nummer Ni, a chic women's clothing store located in Magna Plaza, a large shopping mall that used to be the main post office. Beautiful building.

This top is from Minimum, a danish clothing label. I love this top. It is a fantastic layering piece. It also looks great as a dress, demonstrated here. There is just a touch of sparkle. A touch of sparkle is always good...especially on a Monday.
Wishing you a great start to the week.

Rotterdam

I spent a day in the cool city of Rotterdam! It is about an hour train ride from Amsterdam. The train ride was half the fun. So nice to sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the Dutch countryside. Rotterdam is a relatively large city so I wasn't able to see everything. I went to the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, a lovely museum full of some masterpieces from many different art movements. A highlight was seeing a Mondrian, as an art history major that was exciting!
There is also a beautiful park around the museum.

A definite must if you are visiting Rotterdam is to walk along the port which is the largest in Europe. It really is an awesome experience to watch all the ships and catch a nice view of the city. There is some neat public art around Rotterdam.
An interesting city full of art, history and culture.

One down, four to go. Happy Tuesday!

By The Sea

Hello! Hope you had a good weekend. Here are some photos from my afternoon spent in the lovely town of Volendam. The town is located by the Ij lake, not far from Amsterdam. It is a popular tourist destination in the Netherlands and when you visit you know why. There is a beautiful harbour with cute shops and restaurants. I tasted the best cheese I have ever had. The views of the lake were breathtaking. So picturesque. I'm glad I had my camera with me!

Monday is here yet again. Wishing you a good start to the week!

Monki Madness

This kimono is another purchase from Amsterdam. It is from the ultra cool store Monki. I remember going to a Monki store in London last year and really liked it. So I was excited to see one in Amsterdam! This time I decided to actually buy something from this awesome brand. They only have stores in Europe and Asia so it's fun to bring something back that is a bit different. Ofcourse I suppose you could shop online. They have some very cool clothing!

I love kimonos. They are a great layering piece. I love the print of this one. Such beautiful colours. The relaxed fit and length make for a fashionable look. So excited to sport this badboy for fall.

TGIF! Wishing you a happy and safe weekend.

Cool Things, Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a very cool city with lots of interesting things to see, do and eat. I thought I would share with you a few cool things I encountered during my time in this awesome city.
I know you can get apple pie anywhere but I must say, the few slices I had in Amsterdam are by far some of the best I've ever had. Filled with chunks of delicious apple, not super sweet and always served with a dollop of whip cream.
 One really can't go wrong.
Their flower market is apparently the only floating flower market in the world. It is so much fun to stroll through and admire the beautiful flowers and tulip bulbs. I got my mom some tulip bulbs from here!
Amsterdam is home to Europe's largest public library, a beautiful building near the main train station.
There was a really cool exhibit of designs by Dutch designer Marga Weimans.
Great to see a public library system showing support for the fashion industry!
The train stations are bustling with trains coming and going every minute.
Have to say, Dutch trains are very reliable. They arrive on schedule to the minute.
I wish the Canadian rail system was this efficient!
Hero de Janeiro is a Dutch street artist from Amsterdam.
The cool street art around Amsterdam gives a fashionable urban edge to the city.
The Centraal Station is a beautiful building and worth a visit even if you do not take the train anywhere.
Great place to people watch.
I met this little cutie at the Amsterdam zoo. A lovely way to spend an afternoon!
Amsterdam has a Karl Lagerfeld boutique!! It is located in the ultra hip Nine Streets area full of awesome stores and cafes.
Our Lord in the Attic is a 17th century house that had a Catholic church hidden in the attic. This was a time when certain religions were not allowed to worship in public. It is really neat to see a full blown church in the attic of a house.
If you are into history this is a very cool house to visit.
The Dutch know how to make a very tasty pancake. The Pancake Bakery has the best pancakes in Amsterdam, so good!
It was so sweet to see cats and dogs walking around shops and hanging out right at the doorstep enjoying the beautiful weather.
I walked up the church tower of Westerkerk and got the most beautiful view of the city.
Another highlight if you are into history and architecture.
The Stedelijk Museum is the city's modern and contemporary art museum. A very cool place with some great art.
For me, perhaps the coolest thing to do in Amsterdam was to go for an evening stroll along the canals.
They are so pretty all lit up. So romantic.

And that concludes my list of cool things to see and do in Amsterdam.
Hope your week is going well, have a great day!
